CHESTERTOWN, MD (06/07/2013)(readMedia)-- Washington College is pleased to announce that Maegan Clearwood '13 of Middletown, MD, is a recipient of the 2012-2013 Stewart Drama Award, the Maureen Jacoby Prize and the Writers Union Award. The Stewart Award is awarded to a senior "who has made outstanding contributions to the College through dramatic and speaking ability." The Maureen Jacoby Prize is awarded to the graduating senior who has "demonstrated dedication to student publications at Washington College, as well as strong potential for a future in the field of publications." The Writers Union Award recognizes a graduating senior for service to the campus Writers' Union club.
Clearwood graduated summa cum laude with a bachelor of arts degree in English and drama and a minor in creative writing at Washington College's 230th commencement this May. During her time at the College, she served as editor-in-chief of the campus newspaper, The Elm, and has interned at and contributed to various print publications, including The Kent County News, The Herald-Mail and the Washington College Magazine.
On campus, Clearwood was a member of Phi Beta Kappa, the Sigma Tau Delta English honor society, the Douglass Cater Society of Junior Fellows and the Omicron Delta Kappa leadership honor society. She received departmental honors in English and drama and was one of five Sophie Kerr finalists selected this year. For her Senior Capstone Experience, she served as student dramaturg for a faculty-directed production of The Tragedy of King Lear. This September, Clearwood will begin a full-season education fellowship with the Olney Theatre Center in Olney, MD.
