Maine Agencies to aid in Montenegrin Training for Emergency Management

AUGUSTA, ME (07/24/2017) (readMedia)-- Waldo County- Wednesday, July 26, 2017 the Waldo County Emergency Management Agency will host members from the Maine National Guard, and representatives from our state partner country, Montenegro as part of an ongoing cooperative effort to further develop emergency management capabilities in Montenegro.

The crisis management adviser for the Department for Strategic Planning, the head of operations and the senior adviser for defense planning at the Directorate for Defense Policy, from Montenegro's Ministry of Defense are meeting with emergency management agencies around the state that would work with the Maine National Guard in the case of an emergency.

In the last 15 years Montenegro has battled 1007 major forest fires, in the last year there have been 10 earthquakes, and there are floods almost yearly. The Maine National Guard has been working with the Ministry of Defense in Montenegro for the last five years on developing and improving their infrastructure for responding to disaster management and how the civil authorities and the military authorities work together to quickly respond to an event statewide.
