AUGUSTA, ME (07/10/2015)(readMedia)-- Brig. Gen. Gerard F. Bolduc, the acting Maine National Guard Adjutant General, has been selected to attend the Capstone Military Leadership Program. Bolduc will be the first general officer from the Maine Air Guard to be invited to attend this five week program, which begins mid-July.
Capstone is a joint service professional military education courses for newly promoted brigadier generals and rear admirals serving in the United States military.
"The State of Maine has a proud history of a professional and capable military presence led by outstanding leaders," Governor Paul R. LePage said. "Courses like this one will ensure our state has agile leadership in place for whatever emergency arises."
The National Defense University conducts the Capstone course at Fort Lesley J. McNair in Washington, D.C. The course objective is to ensure senior military leaders understand how military forces and other elements of national power are integrated and used to support national military strategies and how joint, interagency and multinational operations support strategic national objectives.
The Capstone course provides a framework to help leaders think about future war and describes the required capabilities the future military will need to prevent conflict, shape the environment and win the nation's wars.
The Capstone curriculum examines major issues affecting national security decision making, military strategy, joint doctrine and service interoperability and familiarizes senior officers with allied nations. The course includes guest speakers, seminars, case studies, group discussions and visits to military commands and operational units located in the continental United States.
Bolduc was selected to attend this course prior to his assignment as the acting Adjutant General.
"The military educational opportunities I've enjoyed during my career have been professionally rewarding for certain," Bolduc said. "I consider my selection to attend Capstone the highlight of my military career."
