Majority of NYC Council Members Applaud Ceasefire and Release of Hostages

NEW YORK, NY (10/13/2025) (readMedia)-- JCRC-NY thanks the majority of NYC Council Members for signing on to the statement below expressing support for a Middle East ceasefire, release of all hostages, lasting peace between Israelis and Palestinians, and a more inclusive New York for all.

After more than two long and painful years, we, the undersigned, share in the profound relief brought by the recent ceasefire and hostage release agreement.

There are no words to capture the emotion of seeing families reunited after 730 days of anguish. We are deeply grateful for the tireless diplomatic efforts that made this progress possible and for the courage shown by all who worked to bring this moment within reach.

Here in New York, this milestone carries special meaning. Our Jewish community - alongside New Yorkers of every faith and background - has prayed, marched, and hoped for this day, keeping the hostages' names and faces alive in our hearts.

This agreement brings long-overdue relief to innocent civilians - Israeli and Palestinian alike - who have endured unimaginable hardship and loss. We pray that this ceasefire opens the door to renewed dialogue, safety, and dignity for all who have suffered.

We reaffirm our commitment to peace, security, and human dignity for every person affected by terror and war. And here at home, we rededicate ourselves to strengthening understanding and building peace among all New Yorkers.
