BATAVIA, NY (04/23/2014)(readMedia)-- Genesee Community College invites adults new to college and high school juniors and seniors to take a class on us this summer through the Genesee Promise Plus summer scholarship program. The program, now in its seventh year, is accepting applications through June 27, 2014. There are more than 170 classes offered at seven campus locations or online, providing students an array of different subjects to enjoy-from chemistry to college composition, anatomy to astronomy, ceramics to art history, physics to statistics and much more.
GCC's Board of Trustees implemented the Promise Plus program in 2008 with a goal of removing any financial barriers to higher education for the citizens of Genesee, Livingston, Orleans and Wyoming Counties. Promise Plus expanded last year to include adult students who'd never before been to college.
"We were so pleased that more than three dozen adult students took advantage of the opportunity," said Tanya Lane-Martin, director of Admissions at GCC. "Many of them enjoyed the classes so much, they were inspired to enroll and further their education."
There are three distinct scholarship offers available through Promise Plus:
Certain high school students may take classes in Summer Session 1 as long as it does not conflict with any high school schedules. All students are strongly encouraged to discuss their unique situation and interests with a GCC academic advisor.
Those interested must submit a Genesee Promise Plus application by Friday, June 27, 2014. In addition, they must complete a general GCC admission application, which is always FREE. Adults must submit a copy of their high school transcripts.
