SPARTANBURG, SC (05/19/2010)(readMedia)-- Wofford College senior Manan Gupta received the Coleman B. Waller Award, the departmental award for chemistry, and the Dan W. Olds Award, the departmental award for computer science, during Honors Day ceremonies held May 11.
Gupta is a double chemistry and computer science major and mathematics minor with an emphasis in computational science. He has held a research internship at the Institute for Systems Biology in Seattle, Wash., and an internship studying Turin pattern formation in chemical reaction-diffusion systems at Macalester College in St. Paul, Minn. A member of Phi Beta Kappa, Gupta has earned a 4.0 GPA. He plans to pursue a career in a medical field. Parents: Sunil and Rita Gupta (Spartanburg, S.C., 29301).
The academic major awards are made by the faculty to seniors recommended by the major departments on the basis of academic achievement, character and intellectual promise. Some of the awards are named in honor of persons who have made significant contributions to the intellectual life of the college.
