ROTTERDAM, NY (12/16/2011)(readMedia)-- Maple Ski Ridge kicks off their 49th winter season Saturday December 17th at noon. The recent weather made it possible for them to make snow as temperatures started to drop below the freezing mark. In preparation for the winter season they have been fine tuning the Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) ticketing system. The Sweet Pass, a digital ticket that remains in a skier or Snowboarders' pocket, enables a skier or snowboarder to go from their car to the lift without waiting in any lines. When it was introduced to the public, they referred to it as the"Sweet Pass" because the skiers and Snowboarders it was introduced to labeled it as "so S-W-E-E-T". The Staff at Maple say, "Parents love the easy accessibility it affords their families since the pass can be recharged right on line with no waiting in lines at the mountain". The Sweet Pass communicates with the turn-style to allow the skier onto the lift, the technology has made Maple Ski Ridge a model for mountains worldwide. It was a 2 year collaboration to bring this technology to the Upstate NY area with the intent of offering it as an added convenience to Skiers, Snowboarders and the Staff.

Some of the features of the Maple Ski Ridge's new ticket system & Sweet Pass include :

  • Hands free detection: no need for a Skier or Snowboarder to remove badge from his/her pocket or have a coat tag.
  • Maximum security and safety: ensures against MIS-identification, theft and fraud
  • Personalized video interface: LCD display with a custom message for each rider to see who passes through turn-style
  • Convenience - The NEW lift ticketing system is rechargeable online so Skiers and Snowboarders can skip lines, and go from the car to the slope.

"Our newest addition last season was a digital ticketing system that uses an Radio Frequency ID card that we named the Sweet Pass. The Sweet Pass is the size of a credit card, and is carried inside the pocket of a Skier or Snowboarder and replaces the traditional printed lift ticket", said Kate Michener, Marketing Director for Maple Ski Ridge. "We get many questions about how we named the Sweet Pass, and it was simple, we handed it to some of our Skiers and Snowboarders and told them this was their new pass. They responded this is S-w-e-e-t, it just stuck with us and now each time someone passes thru a turn style at the base of the lift, the Sweet Pass card is scanned- the card identifies the pass holders info and allows the pass holder to continue onto the lift. We think that this system will make the experience better for everyone who comes to Maple Ski Ridge. We are always looking at ways to improve the experience for our ski families, this upgrade offers value and convenience to so many of our Skiers and Snowboarders."
