CHESTERTOWN, MD (06/10/2013)(readMedia)-- Washington College is pleased to announce that Matt Streeter '13 of Huntingtown, MD, is the 2012-13 recipient of the Joseph H. McLain '37 Prize and a recipient of an outstanding community service recognition. Endowed in 1982 by members of the American Pyrotechnics Association, the Joseph H. McLain '37 Prize is "awarded to the graduating senior who, in the opinion of the Department of Chemistry, shows the greatest promise for making a future contribution to human understanding of chemistry."
Streeter graduated with a bachelor of science degree in chemistry and psychology at Washington College's 230th commencement ceremony this May. On campus, he was a member of the Scientific Research Society, the Psi Chi philosophy honor society, the Omicron Delta Kappa leadership honor society and the Douglass Cater Society of Junior Fellows. Streeter was also a John S. Toll Science and Mathematics Fellow, a resident assistant, an organic chemistry course mentor, president of Gamma Sigma Epsilon and secretary of the College's chapter of the American Chemical Society. And he served as a peer tutor, a Relay for Life committee member, a Habitat for Humanity participant and a member of the String Orchestra. Streeter will be pursuing his Ph.D. at Yale University in the fall.
