WHERE: Parking area at Cedar Bay off Butternut Drive in DeWitt. This is just north of Kinne Road, at the west end of the trail. Same location for the clean-up event.
WHAT: The Gargyles service group invite volunteers to join the clean-up along the Old Erie Canal and Canalway Trail eastward from its west end in DeWitt. Those interested in helping with this clean-up are encouraged to check out the event's Facebook page for more information.

WHY: As part of the annual celebration of Earth Day, volunteers from nearly 100 organizations statewide team up with Parks & Trails New York, the New York State Canal Corporation, and the New York State Environmental Facilities Corporation, to clean up and improve the lands around the Canal system, scheduled to reopen for navigation on May 1, 2012.
