Media Advisory: Oversized Cargo To Be Shipped Via Canal System

ALBANY, NY (06/01/2009)(readMedia)-- The New York State Canal Corporation and the New York State Marine Highway Transportation Company today announced the shipment of oversized cargo on the New York State Canal System beginning on Tuesday, June 2, 2009, at Lock E-2 in Waterford, NY. Ten pieces of concrete vaults, worth approximately $2 million and weighing approximately 850 tons, are being transported through the Canal System by barge.

The concrete vaults originated from Cape Charles, Virginia, and will be traveling via the Erie and Oswego Canals to R.E. Ginna Nuclear Power Plant in Ontario, NY.

The tugboat "Margot" will be pushing the barge "Lockwood 1000" with the cargo. The "Margot" is expected to enter the Erie Canal at Lock E-2 in Waterford, NY, the morning of Tuesday, June 2, and arrive in Oswego on Friday, June 5. The cargo is expected to be unloaded at the R.E. Ginna Nuclear Power Plant on Monday, June 8.
