The New York State Canal Corporation, together with the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation will hold a press conference on Monday, June 30, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. at Alcathy's on the Erie Canal in Waterford, Saratoga County (directions below) to kick-off the height of the recreational boating season on the New York State Canal System and waterways statewide. Boaters across the State will be encouraged to practice safe boating throughout the season, especially during the upcoming Fourth of July holiday weekend.
Canal Corporation Director Carmella R. Mantello will be joined by officials from the State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation, New York State Police and Department of Environmental Conservation, as well as local officials.
Members of the media, including photographers, are invited to attend.

Directions:
Take Interchange 23 of the NYS Thruway to I-787N. Continue on I-787N to the end. Turn right onto Route 32 north over bridge into Waterford. After approximately two miles on Saratoga Avenue, cross over the Erie Canal and take an immediate left onto 8th Street. Follow 8th Street north to the end and take a left onto Washington Avenue (over railroad tracks). Continue ½ mile (Canal facilities to will be on left) and bear slightly left onto Flight Lock Road immediately after gravel parking lot. Continue up Flight Lock Road to the end (past Lock 5 and Lock 6). The road will dip sharply after the second guard gate (a bridge will be on left) and will open up into a large parking lot.
