The New York State Canal Corporation will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 11:30 a.m., Friday, October 29, at Lock 21 in New London for the newly rehabilitated 20-mile segment of the Erie Canalway Trail.
The reconstructed trail between State Route 13/Peterboro Street in Canastota and Fort Bull Road/Erie Canal Village in Rome is part of the 38-mile bike-and-hike Erie Canalway Trail along the Old Erie Canal State Park from Dewitt to Rome.
The 20-mile Erie Canalway Trail segment is part of the planned statewide Erie Canalway Trail linking the Hudson River and Lake Erie.
DIRECTIONS TO ERIE CANAL LOCK 21: From Rome, take Route 46 south approximately 6.5 miles from intersection with Route 69. Turn right on Canal Lock Road. Proceed approximately 0.5 mile to the Lock 21 parking lot entrance on the right.
