Bear Mountain Pedestrian Tunnel to reopen

What: Ribbon-cutting ceremony to mark the reopening of the newly reconstructed pedestrian tunnel under Route 9W at Bear Mountain State Park.

When: 12 p.m., Thursday, June 5th, 2008.

Where: Bear Mountain State Park, Bear Mountain, New York.

New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation Commissioner Carol Ash will discuss the pedestrian tunnel and other improvements totaling $2.8 million taking place at Bear Mountain State Park this year under a $132 million capital improvement plan for state parks.

The tunnel, which previously was not accessible to the disabled and required pedestrians to climb a steep staircase, closed last September for renovations. The improvements will make for safer, easier access to the park pool and Trailside Zoo.
