SAVANNAH, GA (07/02/2013)(readMedia)-- Houston High School graduate, SCAD B.F.A. sculpture graduate, and SCAD M.F.A. jewelry and objects student Bailey Christenbury received $1,500 in the designer category for the Women's Jewelry Association 2013 Student Scholarship Competition.

"The scholarship is immensely important to me," Christenbury said. "My scholarship will be put directly towards tuition, which will allow me to use more of my personal funds on researching materials and producing art."

The collegiate competition is open to students who are jewelry designers or creators studying in the field to become artisans, gemologists, appraisers, or retailers. Scholarships are awarded to use toward the student designers' professional growth. Ten scholarships are awarded annually, with students earning a total of $20,000 in 2012.
