HOUGHTON, MI (01/27/2012)(readMedia)-- Michigan Technological University has nominated Hal Holmes, a 2009 graduate of Caro High School, for a 2012 Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship.
Goldwater Scholarships are among the most prestigious awards available for US undergraduates in science and engineering. Recipients receive up to $7,500 to cover eligible expenses for undergraduate tuition, fees, books, and room and board.
As part of the application process, Holmes, a junior majoring in biomedical engineering, submitted a research proposal. He aims to develop a remotely activated, smart material system to improve the performance and service-life of implantable biomedical devices.
Holmes is the son of Timothy and Sandra Holmes of Caro.
