KING OR PRUSSIA, PA (08/15/2010)(readMedia)-- The Pennsylvania Turnpike reports that motorists traveling northbound and southbound on the Northeastern Extension of the PA Turnpike (I-476) will be stopped a maximum of 20 minutes between 12 noon and 2:00 p.m. August 16-19. The stoppages will occur south of the Lehigh Tunnel and north of the Mahoning Valley Interchange (Exit #74).
The stoppages are scheduled to occur at 12 noon Monday (8/16) and 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday (8/17-19) but may be conducted anytime within the allowable window of 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
State Police will stop northbound traffic before the Lehigh Tunnel at the Slatington Maintenance facility (milepost A70.1) where Mountain Road crosses the Turnpike. Southbound traffic will be stopped just north of the Mahoning Valley Interchange. Traffic entering the Northeastern Extension from Route 209 will be stopped at the toll plaza.
The 20-minute stoppages are required to safely complete rock-slope demolition without risking worker and motorist safety.
Motorists should anticipate delays during the project; to avoid delays seek alternate routes. The work is weather sensitive and may be rescheduled. Travel advisories will be posted on the project website at www.lehighbridge.com and the Highway Advisory Radio (1640AM) will be activated to provide updates.
