SPARTANBURG, SC (04/28/2010)(readMedia)-- Wofford College junior Mitchell Lee Worley was accorded Wofford College's highest academic honor Thursday, April 22, when he was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa.
Worley, a 4.0 GPA student, is majoring in chemistry and mathematics. He was awarded a Benjamin Wofford Scholarship and is also the recipient of Wofford's National Merit scholarship. He is the instructional coordinator for the Math Academy, serves as an organic chemistry teaching assistant, and is a member of the student affiliate chapter of the American Chemical Society. For the past two summers Worley has conducted research at the Medical University of South Carolina and Greenville Memorial Hospital. He has presented a poster on this research, had a paper published, and is awaiting another publication. This summer he will work on disease modeling project at the University of Bath in England. Worley is a Wofford ambassador and is a member of Wofford's successful mathematics modeling team. A candidate for the B.S. and B.A. degrees in May 2011, Mitchell plans to attend medical school after Wofford, becoming either a research or practicing physician. Twenty-nine Wofford College students and recent graduates were initiated as members-in-course during the ceremony that marked the 69th anniversary of Phi Beta Kappa at Wofford.
