LATHAM, NY (12/09/2025) (readMedia)-- New York Army National Guard Capt. David Mackey, a Ballston Lake resident, recently took command of Delta Company of the 3rd Battalion, 142nd Attack Helicopter Battalion, during a Nov. 16 ceremony at Army Aviation Support Facility #3 in Latham.

The Soldiers of Delta Company provide maintenance and logistics support for the battalion which has units in Latham and Ronkonkoma.

Mackey, joined the Army National Guard after obtaining his commission through Army ROTC at Potsdam University in 2020. He also obtained a master's in mechanical engineering from Clarkson.

He completed aviation officers training and flight school in August of 2022 and took command of Detachment 2, Alpha Company 1st Battalion, 224th Security and Support Battalion which is based in Latham.

In October 2023, Mackey deployed with the detachment to the Southwest Border in support of the Southwest Border security missions as the detachment commander.

While on the border, he served as the officer in charge of the Edinburg, Texas facility, overseeing daily flight operations and coordinating with joint agencies to deconflict and maximize aerial coverage of the border, in support of Customs and Border Protection.

Mackey currently works full time as the acting facility commander for the Latham flight facility.

His most recent assignment was as intelligence officer for the battalion.

Mackey's military awards and decorations include the Army Commendation Medal, the Armed Forces Reserve Medal with "M" Device, the Armed Forces Service Medal, and National Defense Service Ribbon.
