LATHAM, NY (07/18/2019) (readMedia)-- Over 250 New York Army National Guard Soldiers from the 3rd Battalion, 142nd Aviation Regiment will conduct their annual training at Fort Indiantown Gap, Pennsylvania, and Fort Drum, New York from July 21 to August 4.

The battalion has elements based at Albany International Airport in Latham and McArthur Airport in Ronkonkoma and flies the UH-60 Blackhawk helicopter which is used to transport troops and supplies.l

Sixty-seven Soldiers from the battalion's Alpha and Bravo companies, which are based in Latham and Ronkonkoma, respectively, will conduct air assault and door gunnery training at Fort Drum before joining the rest of the battalion at Fort Indiantown Gap.

The Soldiers will be conducting chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear defense training, and take the new Army Combat Fitness Test.

The unit has gone on several eployments to Honduras and Nicaragua, 9/11 assistance, a mobilization and deployment to Bosnia-Herzegovina, assistance to New Orleans during Hurricane Katrina and border patrols along the US - Mexican border.

The 3rd Battalion, 142nd Aviation deployed to Iraq from August 2008 to May of 2009.

Motorists may see increased military traffic on highways and other roads as Army National Guard units move to and from Fort Indiantown Gap.
