NYC Lawmakers Continue "100 Grand" Candy Giveaway Showing $600M Savings If Gov. Hochul Repeals 100-Foot Rule

Lawmakers, advocates are traveling with wheelbarrow of 5,810 "100 Grand" candy bars to show $581M the Governor can save New Yorkers on their energy bills by ending outdated mandate

BROOKLYN, NY (12/15/2025) (readMedia)-- Today, Assemblymember Emily Gallagher will join advocates for a candy giveaway to highlight how much Brooklyn residents can save on their energy bills if Governor Hochul signs legislation to repeal the "100-foot rule". The legislation was sent to the Governor's desk last week, meaning she has until this Friday to sign it into law and stop utilities from costing New Yorkers nearly $600 million more on their energy bills every year.

The group will stand alongside a traveling wheelbarrow of 5,810 "100 Grand" candy bars to represent the expected $581,000,000 that New Yorkers could save each year if Governor Hochul repeals this handout to fossil fuel companies that continues to drive up utility bills for New Yorkers. Thankfully, Governor Hochul is considering signing the bill - now, she can deliver on her promise to save families money and hold utilities accountable by repealing this handout.

Lawmakers and advocates kicked off the giveaway last week, which followed a series of press conferences in Westchester, Kingston, Rochester, Brooklyn, and Queens featuring the traveling wheelbarrow. Advocates will continue rolling the wheelbarrow to different neighborhoods and join lawmakers to urge the Governor to take action before it's too late!
