NYS Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services Launches 'One-Stop Information' Website?

ALBANY, NY (11/10/2010)(readMedia)-- The New York State Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services (DHSES) today announced the launch of its website – http://www.dhses.ny.gov – where New Yorkers can find a wealth of program and preparedness information from its five offices.

John R. Gibb, DHSES Acting Commissioner, said, "Our website was created as a landing page – call it one-stop shopping – where New York's first response community, families, individuals, organizations and businesses can find the myriad of programs, services and preparedness information from our five offices at one location."

The Division came into existence on July 1 with the merger of five offices into its present structure: Counter Terrorism, Cyber Security, Emergency Management, Fire Prevention and Control, and Interoperable and Emergency Communications. The consolidation allows the State to operate a single, multi-purpose agency focused on first responders and public safety. Collectively, the new Division will be responsible for information sharing, physical and cyber security, disaster preparedness and relief, interoperable and emergency communications, fire safety, and emergency response.

The website provides daily awareness of emergency-related events and activities from throughout the State including cyber alerts, State Fire alerts and bulletins, weather and travel, and state and national threat levels. It also provides easy access to reporting terrorism tips as part of the State's "See Something, Say Something" campaign and to the State's all-hazards alert and notification system, NY-ALERT.

For the first response community, there is information on federal grants, emergency planning guidance, course offerings and schedules of training and exercise programs. There also is an extensive publications section providing public safety information from each of the offices as well as informational videos and social media links. The site also provides direct access to each of the offices' legacy websites.
