NYS Division of Veterans' Affairs Appoints New State Veteran Counselor at Syracuse State Office Building

ALBANY, NY (04/15/2010)(readMedia)-- The New York State Division of Veterans' Affairs today announced the appointment of Ms. Corey O'Neil, as State Veteran Counselor in its office located in the Syracuse State Office Building.

Ms. O'Neil served in the United States Navy from 2001 to 2005. During that time she served onboard the USS Nimitz (CVN68) and USS Carl Vinson (CVN70). Corey also served as a plank-owner member of the commissioning crew of the USS Halsey (DDG97). Upon discharge from the Navy, she received her Associates Degree in Applied Science in Photography as well as Associates Degree in Science in Liberal Arts and is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in Communication and Information Design at SUNY Institute of Technology in Utica, NY.

As a veteran, Corey has contributed several years of volunteer service with various veterans' organizations including CNY Veterans Expo Committee, Albany Veterans Medical Center as a Public Affairs Associate and with the NY State Division of Veterans' Affairs. In addition she assisted with the Veterans in College workshops to introduce ways colleges and universities could become veteran friendly.

By joining the Division, Ms. O'Neil fills a vital role at our office at the Syracuse State Office Building allowing us to directly interface with all veterans and their families. "Corey brings extensive experience and ability to the position of State Veteran Counselor. Her military experience, together with her focus and commitment, will greatly assist veterans and their families in the Syracuse area." said Division of Veterans' Affairs Director James D. McDonough,Jr.

The Division's office is located at Syracuse State Office Building, Room 430, 333 E. Washington Street, Syracuse, NY. The purpose of this office is to provide benefits counseling and advocacy for veterans and their families.
