NYS GFOA Holding 29th Annual Conference On Government Finance Issues April 2-4 In Albany

ALBANY, NY (03/13/2008)(readMedia)-- The New York State Government Finance Officers’ Association, Inc. (NYS GFOA) today announced its upcoming 29th Annual Conference on government finance issues is being held at the Albany Marriott Hotel in Albany, N.Y. April 2nd through April 4th, 2008.

The Conference, considered New York’s premier training and education event for government finance professionals, draws over 600 attendees from throughout the State including commissioners, comptrollers, directors of finance, financial analysts, treasurers, clerks, supervisors, CFO’s, accountants, budget directors, business managers, cash managers, tax receivers, and governing board members.

This year’s Keynote Speaker will be Martha Mahan Haines, Chief for the Office of Municipal Securities for the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). She will address recent efforts by the SEC to significantly reform the government finance industry. These reforms include asking the U.S. Congress to require all municipal bond issuers to conform to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), provide an independent source of funding for the Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB), and place GASB under SEC oversight.

Other featured speakers include

• Charles Cox, President of the GFOA of the U.S. and Canada;

• Mary Louise Mallick, First Deputy Comptroller, Office of the State Comptroller;

• Robert Attmore, Chairman, Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB); and

The program also features a series of timely sessions for government finance professionals on topics ranging from accounting and auditing standards to utilizing the latest technology to manage government finances more efficiently to sharing best practices in cash management, budgeting, and internal controls.
