ALBANY, NY (08/13/2013)(readMedia)-- The New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT), in coordination with the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), today announced the release of the Public Scoping Report for the New York Gateway Connections Improvement Project to the U.S. Peace Bridge Plaza ("the New York Gateway Connections Project") in the City of Buffalo. The report is available on the project website, https://www.dot.ny.gov/nygateway, as well as the Buffalo and Erie County Public Library's Niagara Branch and Central (Downtown Buffalo) Library.
The scoping process provided an early opportunity for the FHWA and NYSDOT to disseminate information about the proposed project to the public and involved agencies and receive their feedback. The Project Scoping Report is an overview and record of the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) scoping process conducted for the proposed project.
The Project Scoping Report describes the project location, history, need, purpose and objectives. It also describes the development of the alternatives under consideration in the project's Draft Environmental Impact Statement; alternatives considered and eliminated; environmental impact assessment methodology; costs and schedule; and public and agency coordination. Responses to comments received during the scoping comment period, which ended July 22, 2013, are included in the report's appendix. These comments will be taken into consideration in the preparation of the Environmental Impact Statement, which is now under way.
The scoping process included a public scoping meeting, held on June 11, 2013, and meetings with agencies and other stakeholders. Additional opportunities for public comment will be available as the project advances through the environmental review process.
