National Grid Customers Can Support Renewable Energy by Choosing a Green-Up™ Energy Supplier

WALTHAM, MA (03/15/2011)(readMedia)-- Developing renewable energy sources is essential to building a sustainable environment, and National Grid customers can help by participating in the company's GreenUp™ program. Ranked among the nation's top ten green power programs in 2009, by the U.S. Department of Energy's National Renewable Energy Laboratory, GreenUp™ lets customers help build a cleaner environment by supporting renewable energy sources including wind and low-impact hydroelectric power.

Started in 2002, GreenUp™ is a collaborative effort among National Grid, renewable energy firms, state government agencies, and environmental groups. Eligible National Grid customers in New York, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island choosing GreenUp™ can select from several participating renewable energy suppliers.

National Grid will continue to deliver electricity and provide customer service, including emergency response. Prices to participate in GreenUp™ vary by supplier and renewable energy mix. National Grid does not profit from providing GreenUp™ to customers.
