National NOW President Terry O'Neill to Lead Rally for Social Security at Ithaca Commons

"Feminism NOW and in the Future" Forum at Cornell, September 26th

ALBANY, NY (09/18/2011)(readMedia)-- Terry O'Neill, National President of the National Organization for Women (NOW), will be in Ithaca September 26 to lead a rally and forum opposing cuts to Social Security, and later to discuss recent attempts to roll back gains made by women on economic and social issues, including attacks on reproductive health.

The rally is set for noon on the Ithaca Commons (Bernie Milton Pavilion), with a discussion forum to follow at 12:45 at the Women's Community Building, 100 W. Seneca St. Martha Robertson, chair of the Tompkins County Legislature will also be speaking.

The "War on Women" will examine the current outlook for women in America, including the disproportionate impact on women of attempts to undermine Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid, and attacks on reproductive health, as well as recent gains in marriage equality and renewed interest in an Equal Rights Amendment. The talk will be held at Cornell's Goldwin Smith Hall, Kaufmann Auditorium, at 5 p.m. All events are free and open to the public.

The visit by the head of the nation's largest women's rights organization is sponsored by Tompkins County NOW and the Women's Resource Center at Cornell. Founded in 1966, NOW currently has 500,000 contributing members and 550 chapters in all 50 states and the District of Columbia.
