National Organization for Women-NYS Decries Sexist Web Site Proprietor's Senatorial Aspirations

ALBANY, NY (01/23/2012)(readMedia)-- A 1/22/12 New York Times piece by Raymond Hernandez, "Under the Name of a Senate Hopeful, Blog Posts on Sex and Drugs," reports that Marc Cenedella, a potential Republican candidate for US Senate from New York hosts TheLadders.com, a job-search web site.

Apparently a related web site, blog.theladders.com/rock, was, until very recently entitled "The Personal Blog of Marc Cenedella" and bore his photograph. The blog was allegedly full of items like "A New Holiday for Men" planned for March 14, when women would be encouraged to provide steak dinners and oral sex. In addition there were reported references to "Obamarosa Jock Straps" and a number of other offensive and sexist remarks.

NOW-NYS President Marcia Pappas said that: "although independent verification of this information is impossible do to the recent revamping Cendella's site, NOW-NYS wishes to go on record opposing this candidacy of sexist representatives of either party, no matter how well-healed and deep pocketed they be."

Pappas added: "It's bad enough that the Republican party is formally committed to removing women's reproductive rights. Perhaps they could at least pay lip service to monitoring misogyny in their own ranks."
