ROCHESTER, NY (03/30/2018) The altogether kooky family made famous by the Charles Addams' 1960s sitcom will take over the Nazareth College Arts Center in The Addams Family: A New Musical Comedy. Presented by the Nazareth College Theatre and Dance Department, this family-friendly musical brings all of your favorite macabre characters (back) to life at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, April 20 and Saturday, April 21, and 2 p.m. on Sunday, April 22 in the Callahan Theater, located on the campus of Nazareth College at 4245 East Avenue, Rochester, 14618. The show was created by an award-winning team that includes authors Marshall Brickman and Rick Elice (Jersey Boys), composer-lyricist Andrew Lippa (The Wild Party). It's directed and choreographed by New York City-based Robin Levine, whose accolades include starring in Mamma Mia! on Broadway, with musical direction by Corinne Aquilina, assistant professor and program director of musical theatre at Nazareth College.
THE PERFORMANCE
Two worlds collide when the famous child of gloom, Wednesday Addams, falls in love with her polar opposite: an upstanding and, respectable, young man, whose lack of interest in all things death and despair send shockwaves through the Addams' family mansion. In a night of frightfully hilarious antics, the family of darkness must attempt to bury their abnormalities in order to host a dinner for Wednesday's shockingly normal love interest and his family. Will these unusual characters be able to make it through One Normal Night?
The Addams Family: A New Musical Comedy showcases a peculiar troupe of unusual personalities that form a delightfully spooky and dysfunctional family, bound together by centuries of family matters.
"They're creepy and they're kooky, like every family!" says director and choreographer, Robin Levine. "But as we consider this quirky clan, we also find a story of love and acceptance, two things we should all stop and consider more."
In a story of love, family, and ominous peculiarities, The Addams Family shows audiences the importance of family first and family last, because "...when you're an Addams, you'll do what Addams do or die."
