SIMSBURY, CONN. (05/04/2012)(readMedia)-- Though it won't make its Dodge dealership debut until June, the all-new 2013 Dodge Dart is already receiving accolades from the automotive media. The upcoming reboot of the iconic Dart name has been named to the 2012 Ward's 10 Best Interiors list, earning praise for its inviting cabin and forgiving price tag. The recognition signals a promising start for Dodge's new offering in the compact segment, where the automaker faces stiff competition from the likes of Chevy and Ford.
The 2013 Dodge Dart model reviewed by WardsAuto came in at just $21,485, impressing editors with its Nappa leather upholstery, heated steering wheel and reconfigurable seven-inch infotainment display. Replacing the Dodge Caliber in the automaker's lineup, the Dart enters the market with an even lower base price of $15,995, excluding destination charge. That is a lower starting price than compact competitors like the Ford Focus, Chevy Cruze and Toyota Corolla.
"The new Dodge Dart keeps finding ways to hit the mark right out of the gate," said Stewart Gilling, general sales manager of Simsbury, Connecticut Dodge dealer Mitchell Chrysler Dodge Ram. "It's impressive that Dodge was able to create an all-new interior that instantly resonated with the experts, but it's even more impressive that they're able to offer it at such a low price."
With five different trim levels, three different fuel-efficient engines and a host of amenities, the 2013 Dart offers buyers a broad range of customizable options. At launch, available trims will include the base Dart SE, the customizable SXT, the aggressively styled Rallye and the luxurious Limited model. Arriving later this year, the top-trim Dart R/T will house a 184-horsepower 2.4-liter Tigershark engine and feature sportier styling befitting of the high-performance R/T badge.
In addition to the available Uconnect infotainment system that syncs with smartphones and mp3 players, the 2013 Dodge Dart will be the first vehicle to offer available in-car wireless charging to keep those devices full of juice. Designed by the Chrysler Group's Mopar service and parts division, a special power bin with a built-in charging grid can provide an easy place for passengers to store and charge their devices below the center stack.
Eliminating the need for plugs or adapter cords, the new power bin uses conductive technology to charge smartphones and mp3 players when they are fitted with an included charging case. While the Dart will be the first model to receive the technology, it is expected that the Chrysler Group will open up the wireless option to more of its vehicles in the future.
"The new wireless charging mat is just another example of the Dodge Dart going above expectations in the compact segment," added Gilling. "The Dart is set to offer a level of convenience that can't be matched by its competitors, whether it's a cord-free interior or the ability to get your perfect balance of power and efficiency with three powerplant choices."
