New York City Central Labor Council Supports Boathouse Workers

ALBANY, NY (08/09/2011)(readMedia)-- Vincent Alvarez, President of the New York City Central Labor Council, issued the following statement, following today's walk out of dozens of workers at the Central Park Boathouse Restaurant:

"The New York City Central Labor Council stands in strong support of the workers at Central Park Boathouse Restaurant. These hard working men and women must be allowed to exercise their democratic right to join a union.

"The labor movement in this city will not stand idly by as the rights, dignity and respect of any group of workers is attacked. As such, the workers at Boathouse Restaurant have the full support of the Council, and access to the resources of this organization for as long as necessary.

"I call upon the New York City Parks Department to use their contractual authority to force Dean Poll to follow the law and respect the rights of their employees."
