New York Credit Union Association Announces Scholarship Awards
New York Credit Unions Will Provide Approximately $225,000 in Scholarships to High School Seniors This Year

ALBANY, NY (05/15/2013)(readMedia)-- The Credit Union Association of New York (CUANY) today announced that 37 high school seniors from across the state have been awarded college scholarships as part of its statewide scholarship program. 12 students will be award $1,000 scholarships and 25 will receive a $500 award. According to CUANY estimates, individual credit unions across New York will award more than $200,000 in scholarships to students this year.
The students, who are all credit union members, were chosen based on academic performance, honors and awards, extracurricular activities, community activities, leadership roles, and an essay. In addition, the award recipients must be high school seniors planning on enrolling in either a two or four year college.
"These are all incredibly hardworking individuals and we are excited to have an opportunity to help fulfill their dreams of pursuing a college education," said William Mellin, President/CEO of CUANY. "This truly represents the 'people helping people' philosophy of credit unions and how important it is to help our local communities succeed."
Overall, 94 credit unions across New York State participated in the program and nearly 1,400 applications were received.
Statewide winners, who were awarded a total of $24,500, include:
