New York Credit Union Association's Capital Chapter spotlights a year-round need

(Albany, N.Y.) – Recognizing that hunger does not go away once the holiday season food drives have ended, the Capital Chapter of the New York Credit Union Association worked with the Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York to replenish its supplies in January and beyond.

On January 13, representatives from Capital Chapter credit unions delivered food donations to the Regional Food Bank and spent two hours helping prepare and send food packages to areas in need.

"We hope that this effort encourages other organizations in the area to launch similar initiatives during the year. The holiday season is prime time for reaching out to those in need, but those needs exist all year long," says Lisa Totaro, Capital Chapter President and Marketing Manager for Sunmark Federal Credit Union.

"January food donations help us restock our member food pantries, whose shelves are often bare after providing holiday meals for people in need," says Tracey Martin, associate director of the Regional Food Bank. "Winter is a great time to donate to the cause of hunger relief."

The Capital Chapter comprises 25 credit unions in 4 counties, including Albany, Columbia, Greene, and Rensselaer.

The New York Credit Union Association has served as the trade association for the state's credit unions for 97 years. With more than 5 million memberships, New York credit union assets total more than $67 billion. To learn more about NYCUA, visit www.nycua.org.
