BRONX, NY (02/02/2026) (readMedia)-- In response to two devastating, deadly residential fires in the Bronx last week - one at the Boston Secor Houses that displaced over 175 residents and a second in University Heights - the Hotel Association of New York worked with its members to offer rooms for those forced from their homes. The hotel industry has consistently shown up for New Yorkers in times of crisis, working with elected officials and partners in government and the nonprofit sector to provide safe, immediate shelter. This includes responding to previous devastating fires in the Bronx and offering relief to all 11 families affected by the 2024 fire in Queens Village. The industry also helped keep the city safe during COVID with rooms to isolate affected New Yorkers, was critical to the effort to shelter asylum seekers over the past few years, and is an essential part of the city's response to increases in homelessness.
"In times of crisis, New York's hotel industry continues to demonstrate its commitment to supporting vulnerable New Yorkers. We stand ready to assist response efforts and work alongside city leaders to help ensure displaced residents have access to safe, dignified accommodations in their community as they navigate the challenging days ahead," said Vijay Dandapani, president and CEO of the Hotel Association of New York. "Our hearts are with the families and residents affected by these tragic fires in the Bronx."
