LATHAM, NY (09/09/2011)(readMedia)-- Photos, historical interviews and videos telling the story of the New York National Guard's response to the 9/11 attack on the World Trade Center are now available on line at the New York State Division of Naval Affairs Website.
The collection of materials includes photographs taken shortly after the event by New York Army and Air National Guard public affairs Soldiers and Airmen as well as ordinary guardsmen.
Videotaped interviews of Soldiers who responded, along with footage of Guard Soldiers at the site that became known as Ground Zero can also be found.
Interviews with New York Army National Guard Soldiers and officers who were actively engaged in operations during the first two weeks are also available. These items from the historical record were recorded by National Guard Bureau historian Major (now Col.) Les Melnyk shortly after the attack while the Guardsmen interviewed were still on state active duty.
The page also includes links to stories about National Guard Soldiers and Airmen and 9/11 that were featured in the New York National Guard publication Guard Times. Additional publications, reports, and Power point slide presentations prepared at the time can also be viewed.
