New York Public Transit Comment on 2022-23 NYS Enacted Budget
ALBANY, NY (04/10/2022) (readMedia)-- "New York's transit systems thank Governor Hochul and legislative leaders for including significant and needed increased funding for public transit in the final state budget," NYPTA president and RGRTA CEO Bill Carpenter said.
"It is important that downstate suburban systems received the increase we asked for to expand their systems and meet the needs of their customers." "While the funding increases Upstate and the MTA did not fully address their needs, we greatly appreciate the efforts of the Governor and Legislature to provide significant and meaningful increased appropriations to help these transit systems move their communities forward out of the pandemic and provide the enhanced transit service all New Yorkers need and deserve. "
Finally, we look forward to working with the Governor and the Legislature to address the funding gaps for Upstate transit systems and the MTA as they too work to address long term funding issues. "Thank you again Governor, Majority Leader Stewart Cousins, Speaker Heastie, Senator Kennedy and Assemblyman Magnarelli and all the members of the Legislature for your continued support for public transit" said NYPTA President Carpenter.
