"Change never happens at the pace we think it should. It happens over years of people joining together, strategizing, sharing, and pulling all the levers they possibly can. Gradually, excruciatingly slowly, things start to happen, and then suddenly, seemingly out of the blue, something will tip."

Judith Heumann, Being Heumann: An Unrepentant Memoir of a Disability Rights Activist

In 2018, NYSILC created the NYS Disability Rights Hall of Fame to recognize individuals who have made lifelong achievements that positively impact people with disabilities in society.

Areas of lifelong achievement include improving public policy and programs/services, advancing new knowledge and/or concepts, eliminating barriers, and promoting a positive image of people with disabilities.
