New York State AFL-CIO Announces Endorsement of Comptroller Tom DiNapoli

ALBANY, NY (08/03/2010)(readMedia)-- Denis Hughes, President of the 2 ½ million member New York State AFL-CIO was joined by labor leaders from across the state at a press conference today, as he announced the State Labor Federation's endorsement of Comptroller Tom DiNapoli.

President Hughes stated, "The New York State AFL-CIO is pleased to announce its endorsement of Tom DiNapoli.

"Throughout his career in public service, Tom has been a strong advocate for the needs and concerns of working men and women. Time and again, he has demonstrated that he not only understands the issues important to working people, but why they are important.

"As State Comptroller, Tom has maintained those same sensibilities. I have no doubt he will continue to utilize his vast experience in dealing with issues important to retirees, working families and all New Yorkers. We look forward to continuing to work side by side in our efforts to protect and enhance the lives and well-being of all workers.

"The New York State AFL-CIO will work diligently on Tom's behalf. We will coordinate a statewide, comprehensive get-out-the-vote effort, including mailings, phone banks and door to door visits to union members."

"I am proud to accept the endorsement of the hard-working men and women of the New York State AFL-CIO today," said Comptroller Tom DiNapoli. "As your Comptroller, I have aggressively identified government waste, saving taxpayers hundreds of millions of dollars and I will continue to make sure every taxpayer dollar counts. I know that the 2.5 million members of the AFL-CIO in New York State share in my desire to make this State a better place for our families to live and work. I will continue to champion the issues that matter to the middle-class in New York State and together, we will work to restore trust, ethics and accountability in government."
