New York State AFL-CIO Announces Endorsement of Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney

ALBANY, NY (04/12/2010)(readMedia)-- Joined by labor leaders representing 2 ½ million union members across the state, New York State AFL-CIO President Denis Hughes today announced the Labor Federation's endorsement of Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney.

President Hughes stated, "The New York State AFL-CIO is pleased to announce its endorsement of Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney for re-election. Throughout her career in public service, Carolyn Maloney has been a leader in fighting for the issues important to working people. Working men and women in the 14th Congressional District, across this city, and throughout this state have no greater champion for their cause than Carolyn Maloney.

"Her leadership on the 9/11 Health and Compensation Act has not only kept the bill alive, but will certainly lead to final legislation allowing this country to finally repay its debt to our September 11th heroes. Carolyn also had the courage of her convictions from the very start in supporting the historic health care reform legislation which will expand coverage for 32 million Americans, make prescription drugs more affordable for seniors, and stop insurance companies from denying health care due to consumers' pre-existing conditions.

"Congresswoman Maloney's role in job creation initiatives and other issues important to the lives and well-being all working people are vital to the future prosperity of our country. As such, the New York State AFL-CIO will coordinate a comprehensive get-out-the-vote effort, including mailings, phone banks and door to door visits to union members on her behalf."

Upon receiving the endorsement, Congresswoman Maloney stated, "I am delighted to once again have the support of New York labor. I would like to thank President Denis Hughes and the members of the New York State AFL-CIO for honoring me with their endorsement. And to their 2 ½ million hard working members, I will continue to fight to provide good jobs and affordable, comprehensive health care."

The New York State AFL-CIO represents approximately 52,000 union members in the 14th Congressional District.
