New York State AFL-CIO Announces Endorsement of Lauren Thoden For Assembly

Special Election to be held for 3rd Assembly District on February 9th

ALBANY, NY (01/29/2010)(readMedia)--

Denis Hughes, President of the 2 ½ million member New York State AFL-CIO today announced the State Labor Federation's endorsement of Lauren Thoden for Assembly. The special election for the open seat in the 3rd Assembly District is scheduled for Tuesday, February 9th.

President Hughes stated, "The New York State AFL-CIO is pleased to announce the endorsement of Lauren Thoden. Lauren has reached out to local unions in her district, and has shown a keen awareness and understanding of the issues, needs and concerns of working men and women.

"As a result of her efforts, Lauren Thoden has received substantial support within the local labor movement in the 3rd Assembly district. As such, the New York State AFL-CIO will work diligently for her election."

Upon receiving the endorsement, Lauren Thoden stated, "I know firsthand the critical role unions play in supporting New York's working families – my dad is a retired union electrician and my husband is a CSEA member. That's why I'm proud to have earned the endorsement of the hard working men and women of the New York State AFL-CIO. I'm running for State Assembly because too many families have been forced to move elsewhere because jobs are scarce. They can't afford to stay in Suffolk while Albany continues to do nothing. We deserve better, and that's why I am pledging to be a full time representative to the people of the 3rd district."

The New York State AFL-CIO will coordinate a comprehensive get-out-the-vote effort, including mailings, phone banks and door to door visits to union members.

The New York State AFL-CIO represents approximately 15,000 union members in the 3rd Assembly District.
