New York State AFL-CIO Announces Endorsement of Mike Simanowitz for Assembly

(Special Election to be held on September 13th)

ALBANY, NY (08/09/2011)(readMedia)-- Denis Hughes, President of the 2 ½ million member New York State AFL-CIO today announced the State Labor Federation's endorsement of Mike Simanowitz for the Special Election in the 27th Assembly District.

President Hughes stated, "The New York State AFL-CIO is pleased to announce its endorsement of Mike Simanowitz. As Chief of Staff to former Assemblywoman Nettie Mayersohn, Mike cultivated a strong working relationship with local unions, and the organized labor movement as a whole. As such, the New York State AFL-CIO will work diligently for his election.

"The New York State AFL-CIO will coordinate a comprehensive get-out-the-vote effort, including mailings, phone banks and door to door visits to union members. I am confident that with labor's support, Mike will be elected to the State Assembly representing the 27th district."

Upon receiving the endorsement, Mike Simanowitz stated, "I am honored to have the endorsement of the New York State AFL-CIO and its 2.5 million members. During my fifteen years of service as Chief of Staff to former Assemblywoman Nettie Mayersohn, I have stood proudly with our brothers and sisters in labor. I will continue to stand with them and fight for them when I get to the New York State Assembly in September. I look forward to continuing a great working relationship with their member organizations and thank them for putting their trust in my campaign."

The New York State AFL-CIO represents approximately 8,500 members in the 27th Assembly District.
