New York State AFL-CIO Endorses Nate Shinagawa for Congress
ALBANY, NY (07/30/2012)(readMedia)-- Today, the New York State AFL-CIO, which represents 2.5 million union members, their families, and retirees, announced that it has endorsed Tompkins County Legislator Nate Shinagawa (D) for Congress (NY-23).
New York State AFL-CIO President Mario Cilento said, "Nate Shinagawa's energy and passion for public service has caught fire with union members in the Southern Tier. They are excited and ready to get to work to ensure that the next representative of the 23rd Congressional District represents them, not corporations and the wealthy interests. From investing in our infrastructure to revitalizing manufacturing, Nate's focus on jobs is just what average Americans are desperately looking for in Washington DC."
Nate Shinagawa said, "I am honored to receive this endorsement. The AFL-CIO represents hard-working people across the Southern Tier, who have seen middle class values like fairness and opportunity come under attack as Republican leaders in Congress put corporate interests and tax breaks for billionaires ahead of working families. Together we will fight to build a strong economy that works for everyone, create good jobs that are here to stay, and protect Medicare and Social Security."
The New York State AFL-CIO represents approximately 64,000 working men and women in the 23rd Congressional District.
