New York State AFL-CIO Executive Board Elects Secretary-Treasurer

ALBANY, NY (07/10/2007)(readMedia)-- Today, at a regularly scheduled Executive Board meeting of the New York State AFL-CIO, Terrence Melvin was unanimously elected Secretary Treasurer of the 2 ½ million member State Labor Federation.

The fifty member executive board elected Terrence Melvin to fill the unexpired term of Paul F. Cole, who retired in March, 2006. Brother Melvin’s term runs through August, 2008.

Terrence Melvin recently served as Executive Assistant to CSEA President Danny Donohue, a position he’s held since January, 1996. In that role, Brother Melvin oversaw CSEA’s day to day operations and worked to ensure that the overall strategic goals of the President and the statewide union were carried out in an efficient and effective manner.

Terrence Melvin is the former President of CSEA Local 427, representing over 2,000 members at the West Seneca Developmental Center, a position he held for 13 years.

He also serves as Director of the Coalition of Black Trade Unionists CBTU) Region One, representing unions in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Massachusetts and Ontario, Canada; Member of the CBTU National Executive Board; and a founding member of the CBTU Buffalo Chapter.
