New York State Broadcasters Honor WAMC's Alan Chartock

ALBANY, NY (06/08/2010)(readMedia)-- The New York State Associated Press Broadcasters Association honored WAMC Northeast Public Radio with an award for "Best Interview" at their Annual News Awards Dinner, held in Saratoga Springs, NY. WAMC President Alan Chartock received the award for his interview with Arlo Guthrie, which was produced by Ian Pickus. A Conversation with Arlo Guthrie touches upon Arlo's childhood growing up as Woody Guthrie's son, "Guthrie Family Tour" and his experience at the famous Woodstock Festival. The interview is peppered with stories about family friends like folk music icon Pete Seeger and artfully weaves in the music of Arlo, Woody, and others.

"We're delighted to be recognized for our work," said Chartock. "Our listeners reward us every fund drive when they call and contribute, and it's great that our peers in broadcasting also see the value of what we do. I'm particularly proud of Ian Pickus, our young producer, who gives me great hope for the future."

This is the third award received for the Guthrie interview, the first being in April, when WAMC was honored with an Edward R Murrow Audio News Documentary award. The second when WAMC was honored with an Award of Distinction in the category of Best Program in the Communicator Awards. It is the latest in an ongoing series of conversations, featuring Chartock speaking candidly with people like Pete Seeger, Sam Waterston, David Kaczynski, James Taylor, Tom Smothers and many others.
