New York State Parks Presents Awards; Malta Resident Honored

ALBANY, NY (12/27/2007)(readMedia)-- New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation Commissioner Carol Ash presented the agency’s annual achievement awards at a ceremony held at Saratoga Spa State Park earlier this month.

Among the awardees was Christopher Flagg, Director of the Building and Landscape Conservation Unit in the Bureau of Historic Sites. Mr. Flagg was awarded a Special Service Award for his efforts as project director for the $2.5 million Fire Protection and Climate Management project at Olana State Historic Site.

“Chris has received this honor for his leadership in coordinating the Olana project, but he has been responsible for providing technical oversight, guidance and support to the agency’s 40 public historic parks and sites since 1994. His technical expertise and project management skills make him an exemplary employee and a deserving recipient of this award,” said Ash.

From 2006-07 Mr. Flagg worked at Olana on a full time basis, commuting nearly 150 miles a day and putting in extraordinarily long hours to administer and choreograph the project’s five separate contractors.

“Chris managed this project with great technical skill and leadership. He is an enormous asset to the Historic Sites Bureau and the public we serve,” said Jim Gold, Director of the State Historic Preservation Office.

Mr. Flagg has been a State Parks employee for over 18 years and resides in Malta.
