No Slowdown in Patenting

ALBANY, NY (07/06/2009)(readMedia)-- Hoffman Warnick LLC (HW), an intellectual property law firm based in Albany, NY, has released the Tech Valley Patent Indices for Second Quarter 2009. The "Tech Valley Patent Indices" include data for: the Capital Region (Albany, Schenectady, Saratoga and Rensselaer counties), Tech Valley, Tech Valley without IBM and GE, and the Capital Region without GE.

With regard to the second quarter, "we are very pleased to see that the recession has not slowed Tech Valley innovation in terms of patenting" stated Spencer Warnick, partner at Hoffman Warnick. Warnick added that: "it's also nice to see that the national number is much stronger than last quarter. This indicates that many companies are still paying for issuance of their patents rather than abandoning them."

The "Patent of the Quarter" is chosen to illustrate firsthand the creativity of Tech Valley inventors. This quarter, the POQ is awarded to: US Patent No. 7550534 issued to Xinyu Zhao, Vijay Mhetar and Thomas J. Hartle for "Thermoplastic method, composition, and article." The patent issued June 23, 2009. The patent is assigned to Sabic Innovative Plastics.
