Trevin Schmidt wins Saint Michael's Award

"As president of the Saint Michael's College Student Association Trevin Schmidt has demonstrated an unselfish commitment to others and the development of community at Saint Michael's College," said Michael Samara, SMC vice president for student affairs and dean of students, in presenting the Saint Michael's award to Trevin Schmidt.

"Trevin consistently works at listening to all sides of a conflict, or a complaint, and proceeds to address issues with a balanced attitude," Dean Samara said. "Difficult issues have been handled in a respectful and productive manner. He is a kind, calm, and inviting presence who seldom demonstrates frustrations, but is more likely to deal with the stress of a situation by using quick wit, and an ability to laugh at himself," Samara said.

Mr. Schmidt was also praised for his volunteer service which included coordinating volunteers to do blood drives, serve meals at shelters, participate in fundraising walks and more. He has renovated homes in an impoverished community in Clay County, Kentucky and is currently on a service trip to Kolkata, India. He plans to go to law school in the future.

"Academically engaged, Trevin's strong passion for the field of criminal law, and past summers spent working with victim- and witness-advocates explains his desire for law school next year, said Dean Samara.
