ALBANY, NY (07/23/2008)(readMedia)-- State Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services (OASAS) Commissioner Karen M. Carpenter-Palumbo today announced that OASAS will hold a media event with the Department of Health, American Cancer Society, Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Professionals, and St. Peter's Addiction and Recovery Center to launch the statewide tobacco-free regulation for all prevention, treatment and recovery programs. Also in attendance will be individuals in recovery and addictions professionals who will give testimonials about why they stopped smoking.
The media event will take place on Thursday, July 24, from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at St. Peter's Addiction and Recovery Center (SPARC), 3 Mercy Lane, Guilderland, NY.
Commissioner Carpenter-Palumbo will be presenting certificates to the eighteen programs that have gone tobacco-free prior to the effective date of the new regulation. To close the event, an evergreen tree will be planted on the SPARC grounds, a symbol of the healthy lives that will grow in recovery due to the tobacco-free initiative.
