Oglethorpe University's Ryan Marcano earns second career Coaches' All-America Honor

Senior forward Ryan Marcano of the Oglethorpe University men's soccer team earned the second all-America honor of his career on Dec. 5 from the United Soccer Coaches. A Business Administration major, Marcano is a graduate of Greater Atlanta Christian Schools.

The Stormy Petrel striker garnered a spot on the organization's NCAA Division III men's all-America second team, released on Dec. 5 in conjunction with the NCAA banquet prior to the men's and women's national semifinals in Greensboro, North Carolina.

Marcano took home all-America third-team honors at the conclusion of the 2017 season and his 2019 award means that a member of the Petrels has earned all-America honors in each of the last three seasons. He finished the season tied for third in the SAA in goals per game with 0.63, while also tying for fourth in the league with 10 total goals scored. He tied for sixth in the conference in points per game with 1.38 and seventh in total points with 22. His goals per game mark placed him in the top 10 in the South Atlantic region, while his points per game and total goals marks put him in the top 20. The Petrels attacker finished all three of his penalty kick opportunities on the season, as well.

As well as becoming the program's second-ever two-time all-American, the Atlanta native won All-South Atlantic Region first-team honors from the United Soccer Coaches on Monday for the second time in his career. The conference's coaches also tabbed him for the All-SAA first team in November, marking his second career appearance on that list. In addition, Marcano earned the Southern Athletic Association Offensive Player of the Week award twice during the 2019 campaign, scoring a goal each in the team's victories over No. 20 Claremont-M-S and Pomona-Pitzer over Labor Day weekend and tallying both goals in their 2-1 win at Sewanee University on October 5.

He helped the Petrel attack to second place in the nation in scoring offense with 3.58 goals per game, fifth in points per game with 9.58, sixth in total goals with 68, and eighth in total points with 182.

Marcano led the team to its fifth straight SAA regular season title and its third straight conference final. He also took part in the NCAA Division III Men's Soccer Championship for the second time in his career, and the program's third time, when the Petrels earned an at-large bid to the tournament field in November. Marcano took part in the program's third-ever conference tournament championship in 2017. The Petrels went 31-7-2 during Marcano's two years on the team.

The United Soccer Coaches honored 47 student-athletes as Division III men's all-Americans on Dec. 5, dispersed over three teams. The organization will formally acknowledge the accomplishments of all their all-Americans, across divisions, at their January convention in Baltimore.
