Senior center Tom Inungu of the Oglethorpe men's basketball team was named the Southern Athletic Association Men's Basketball Player of the Week (Feb. 4) by the league office, marking the first such award of his career.
Inungu had an outstanding weekend, averaging 20.5 points, 10.5 rebounds and 3.0 steals per game while shooting 59.1 percent from the floor in victories over Birmingham-Southern and Millsaps. He scored 23 points on 7-of-10 from the field while grabbing 11 rebounds in Friday's 93-90, double-overtime victory over the Panthers, then followed that up with an 18-point, 10-rebound performance in Sunday's 62-57 win over the Majors, going 6-for-12 in that game.
For the season, Inungu leads the league in blocks with 2.3 per game, and has swatted 51 total shots over the course of the campaign. Both of those numbers put him in the top 20 nationally. The Stormy Petrel center is also tied for second in the SAA with four double-doubles on the season.
