Sophomore forward Will Koch of the Oglethorpe University men's basketball team was named the Southern Athletic Association Player of the Week (Jan. 28) by the league office, marking the first time in his career that the Stormy Petrel forward earned the honor.
Koch averaged 18 points, five rebounds and 2.5 assists per game over the course of the Petrels' victories over Rhodes and Hendrix on Friday and Sunday, respectively. He led the team with 24 points on 9-of-17 from the field overall and 4-of-7 from 3-point range in Sunday's 70-62 win over Hendrix. In Friday's 59-30 win over Rhodes, he scored 12 points, grabbed seven rebounds, and passed out three assists.
For the season, Koch sits in the league's top 10 in scoring (13.3 points per game) and rebounding (6.3 per game). He's also second on the SAA leaderboard with 5.8 defensive rebounds per game.
